It’s 8 AM Saturday. Coffee in hand. You walked out to the garage, fired up the X300, climbed on, pushed the joystick on the LGM-100, and nothing happens. Or it tries to lift, then stops halfway. Or it groans and clicks but the bucket sits there.
Mulch is sitting in the driveway. The kids’ soccer game is at 11. You’ve got about an hour to figure out what’s wrong before you have to either get this thing working or give up and use a wheelbarrow.
Good news. Most of what goes wrong with an LGM-100 is something you can sort out in your own driveway with basic tools. You don’t need a hydraulic pressure gauge. You don’t need to pull the actuator apart. You need to know what to check and in what order.

Safety First, Real Quick
The LGM-100 is electric. There’s no high-pressure hydraulic line that’s going to spray you with hot fluid. That’s one of the reasons we built it electric instead of hydraulic. But you still need to be smart.
- Always lower the bucket to the ground before you start poking around. Never work under a raised loader.
- Turn the tractor off and pull the key. If you’re going to be near the actuator wiring, disconnect the battery too.
- If you smell anything burning, stop. Walk away. Let it cool. Then come back and look.
Now to the symptoms.
Symptom 1: The Loader Won’t Lift At All
You push the joystick up and nothing happens. No click. No motion. No noise from the actuator.
This is almost always electrical. The LGM-100 runs off the tractor’s 12V battery through the actuator. If power isn’t getting to the actuator, nothing moves.

- Check the tractor battery. Turn the key. Do the dash lights come on at full brightness? Does the engine start strong? If the battery is weak, the actuator gets even less. A weak battery is a common reason a loader will not lift. The LGM-100 draws all its power directly from the tractor battery, and the tractor needs to be running while you operate the loader so the alternator keeps up with the actuator load.
- Check the connector at the actuator. Pop the cover, look at the plug. Is it seated all the way? Any green or white corrosion on the pins? If it looks dirty, unplug it, give it a quick clean, dab a little dielectric grease in the connector, plug it back in.
- Look for chew marks on the wiring. Mice love wiring insulation. Run your eyes along the harness from the dash all the way to the actuator. A bare wire grounding out anywhere along that run will kill the loader.
- Check the joystick connection. The joystick has a wire too. Make sure it’s plugged in. Sometimes a snagged sleeve or a brushed-against branch will pop a connector loose.
- Check the inline fuse. If your install has one, it’ll be a small inline fuse holder somewhere between the battery and the actuator. Pull it out, look at it. If it’s blown, swap in a fresh one of the same rating.
When to Call
If the battery is strong, the connections are clean, and there’s no visible damage to the wiring, but the loader still won’t move when you push the joystick, the actuator itself may have failed internally. That’s the time to get on the phone with us.
Symptom 2: Actuator Clicks But Doesn’t Move
You push the joystick. You hear a click. Maybe a soft hum. But the bucket doesn’t actually move.
This one usually means the actuator is getting a signal but can’t deliver the motion. Two main causes.

- Low battery, again. A click and no motion is the classic symptom of an electric motor trying to draw current it can’t get. Test your battery. If it’s been a while since you charged it, throw it on a charger for a few hours and try again.
- Loaded down with too much weight. Is there something heavy in the bucket? Mulch settles into a denser pile overnight. Wet dirt is much heavier than dry. The LGM-100 is rated around 320 pounds. If you packed the bucket past that and walked away, it might not be able to break it free in the morning. Manually scoop some of the load out and try again.
- Frozen. If it’s wintertime and the loader sat with snow or ice on it overnight, the moving parts may literally be frozen in place. Pour warm (not hot) water over the pivot points. Let it sit. Try again.
- Pivot pin seized up. If the loader hasn’t been greased in a year, the pins can rust into the bushings. The actuator is trying to move but the joint won’t budge. Hit every grease zerk. Wait a couple minutes. Try again.
When to Call
If you’ve ruled out the battery, the load, the temperature, and the grease, and the actuator is still just clicking, it’s likely an internal issue with the actuator motor or the gearset. Time to call.
Symptom 3: Bucket Sags Overnight
You park the tractor with the bucket halfway up. You come back in the morning and it’s drooped two or three inches. Or worse, it’s all the way to the ground.
First thing. This is not actually a problem you need to fix in most cases. It’s just a thing electric actuators do over long periods. They’re not built to hold a load up indefinitely with the engine off.
That said, if the sag is dramatic, fast, or getting worse, that’s a different story.

- Don’t park with the bucket up. Easy fix. Park with the bucket resting on the ground, or on a wood block, or on the lip of a wheelbarrow. Take the load off the actuator when you’re not using it. This will extend the actuator’s life by a lot.
- Check that the bucket isn’t holding a heavy load when stored. Empty the bucket before you walk away.
- Look for any obvious leak from the actuator. Electric actuators don’t have hydraulic fluid, but they do have internal grease. If you see unusual residue, obvious damage, or the bucket drops quickly with no load, stop using the loader and call us. The actuator may need service.
When to Call
If the bucket sags fast (a couple inches in five minutes) or all the way down with no load on it, the actuator may need service. Stop using the loader and contact us. That’s a service call.
Symptom 4: Joystick is Unresponsive or Moves on Its Own
You’re pushing the joystick and the loader is doing something different than you’re asking. Or the loader twitches when you’re not touching the joystick. Or the joystick feels mushy or notchy.

- Wiggle the joystick connector. Make sure it’s seated. If wiggling it makes the loader move, you found your problem. Reseat or replace the connector.
- Look for moisture inside the joystick housing. If you washed the tractor with a pressure washer aimed at the joystick, water may have gotten in. Pull the housing apart, let it dry overnight in front of a fan, reassemble.
- Check the wiring on the joystick base. Same drill as the actuator. Look for chew marks, chafed insulation, anything weird.
- Tighten loose mounting screws on the joystick. Vibration loosens hardware over a season. A loose joystick will feel mushy.
When to Call
If the joystick is dead and the wiring is good, the joystick itself probably needs to be replaced. We stock them. Quick fix.
Symptom 5: Loader Lifts Slowly or Sounds Strained
The bucket is going up. Just slower than it used to. Or you hear the actuator whining harder than normal.

Symptom 6: Bucket Wobbles or the Loader Feels Sloppy
You can feel play in the loader arms. The bucket wobbles side to side when you tilt it. Things just feel less tight than they used to.
This one is almost always mechanical, and almost always something you can fix in the driveway.

- Check every mounting bolt. Where the loader bolts to the tractor frame. Where the actuator bolts to the lift arm. Where the bucket pin connects. Vibration loosens bolts. Tighten anything that’s loose.
- Check the bucket pin. If the pin is worn or the bushing is loose, you’ll get sloppy bucket motion. Replacement pins are cheap.
- Grease everything. Worn-out grease lets metal slap on metal in the joints. Fresh grease tightens that up immediately.
- Inspect for a cracked weld or bent arm. Rare, but if you took a hard hit (drove into something with the bucket extended), look closely at the lift arms for any visible damage.
When to Call
